Margaret River 0, Dunsborough 1

The Dunsborough Towners gained three valuable premiership points when they battled out a 1-0 win to complete a clean sweep of all three matches over Margaret River at Gloucester Park on Sunday.

The Towners couldn’t have asked for a better start in the third minute when a long throw by Jake Thompson created havoc in the River defence to find Sebastian Kovacs rushing in on the far post to ram home from close range.

A second goal went begging in the 17th minute when a perfect cross from Kovacs found an unmarked Richard Olsen with the goal at his mercy only for his header to sail over the bar.

Striker Adam Shaw went close on two occasions with stand-in goalkeeper Stuart McKay making crucial saves.

River had two excellent chances in the first-half with Simon Corke rattling the bar from 30 metres in the 33rd minute and a mad moment from a corner in the 44th min when the Towners somehow cleared three shots off the line in a crowded goalmouth.

Margaret River 0, Dunsborough 4

A revitalised Dunsborough Towners reserve side returned to the winner’s list with a comfortable 4-0 win over Reserve league cellar dwellers Margaret River at Gloucester Park on Sunday.

But for the first 20 minutes it was Margaret River’s young brigade that looked the more composed and created major problems to Dunsborough’s defence without actually presenting a significant threat in attack.

The first-half had little to recommend it until late in the half when a bending shot from Towners midfielder Jake Smith sped past the upright.

Then in the 39th minute Keiron McCabe found himself through with an open goal at his mercy from close range when he appeared to be dragged back forcing his shot to graze the outside of the post with calls for penalty falling on deaf ears.

Margaret River 0, Dunsborough 4

At long last the young Dunsborough Towners women’s team have secured a victory in the 2009 Women’s Premier League with a gutsy 2-1 win over Margaret River at Gloucester Park on Sunday.

The Towners have been threatening to win in most of their matches this season only to lack the finishing touches to compliment the dominance that has been created in their general play.

Certainly they were outclassed by Bunbury Dynamo last week and probably will struggle against the likes of Hay Park and Busselton who possess strong squads.

However, they are good enough to compete successfully with the rest of the competition.

The cultured left foot of Sebastian Kovacs and the aerial skills of Richard Olsen inspired the Dunsborough Towner to a remarkable comeback in an epic 5-5 encounter with Bunbury Dynamo in a Premier League football clash at the Dunsborough Playing Fields on Sunday.

In fact their were two Towner comebacks in the match, the second the more incredible because it was accomplished with only ten men after star striker Graeme Copeman was red carded for retaliation early in the second half.

The Towners were looking at a whitewash for the club after the women’s team had been beaten 6-0 by Dynamo followed by a 6-2 hammering of the men’s reserve side.

For Dunsborough the Premier league game ran the gamut of emotions from despair to hope, to elation and finally disappointment.

The Dunsborough Towners suffered a major setback in their Premier League Reserves campaign when they were hammered 6-2 by Bunbury Dynamo at the Dunsborough Playing Fields on Sunday.

The week before they had registered a meritorious 2-1 win over the same side in the first round of the South West Times knockout cup, and while the Towners struggled late on they demonstration resolution in defence.

This time there was little resistance and Dynamo outplayed Dunsborough in every facet of the game.

The Towners virtually gifted five of the goals to the opposition with slack marking, poor options on the ball and a defence that played far too square allowing Dynamo the luxury of sliding round the back for free shots on goal.

Goalkeeper Paul Andrews did well on many occasions but too often was left exposed with little hope of preventing the avalanche.

Improvement was evident for the Dunsborough Towners women’s side when they lost 6-0 to the powerful Bunbury Dynamo side on the Women’s Premier League clash at the Dunsborough Playing Fields on Sunday.

The week before they had succumbed 9-1 to the same side in the South West Times knockout cup at the same venue.

It was the improvement that was a positive for the home side that counts at this stage as the new line-up settles down.

Since the start of the season it is clear that Dunsborough has a well balanced combination with Belinda Perna outstanding as the director of the defence, Joey Schleuter and Emma Olsen solid in midfield while Chelcie Winchcombe, Amelia Lotze, Mia Holtz and Emily Mathews, to name just a few, consistently perform well.

Taking your chances is what winning matches is all about and the Dunsborough Towners failed in this area when they succumbed to 3-1 defeat at the hands of Bunbury Dynamo in the South West Times Knockout cup on Monday.

In truth, Dynamo was the better composed combination for much of the match.

But oddly it was the Towners that had the better clear cut chances to win the game and advance to the next round of the competition.

At the point where Dynamo held a 3-1 lead Dunsborough created three chances that really should have been converted with only the goalkeeper to beat.

Richard Olsen, Adam Shaw and Graeme Copeman found themselves unexpectedly in the clear following a favourable bounce of the ball.

On each occasion, however, they rushed the opportunity either directing the shots at the goalkeeper or slicing it well wide of the goal.

A tired Dunsborough surprised themselves to some degree when they faced a fresh Bunbury Dynamno in the South West Times Premier league reserve cup first round and manufactured a 2-1 win at the Dunsborough Playing Fields on Monday.

They had already fought out an energy sapping 2-2 draw with Eaton in a Premier League reserve match the day before.

There were few reserves to call on unless it was from players selected to appear in the first team in the following match.

There was little in the contest in the first-half until the 35th minute when young Aiden Greig took the responsibility to strike a 20 metre free kick that sailed over the Eaton defensive wall and curved past a bemused Eaton goalkeeper.

The Dunsborough Towners women team were given a harsh lesson in power football when they were swamped 9-1 by Bunbury Dynamo  in a South West Times Women’s Premier League cup encounter at the Dunsborough Playing Fields on Monday.

Like their men’s Premier and Premer Reserve teams they had to front up two days in succession to play in the League and the Cup matches against a club that had the luxury of an eight day rest.

All three Dunsborough teams had difficult matches that ended in three draws on the Sunday.

There is no doubt that exhaustion played a major factor in all three Dunsborough matches on the Monday.

The new look Dunsborough women’s team continue to impress with their team work and ability to restrict the opposition in the South West Association’s Women’s Premier League following their 0-0 draw against Harvey on Sunday.

Unfortunately they are having trouble finding the net in attack to turn dominance into victory.

In their first three league matches Dunsborough certainly looked the winning side against Bunbury United, Collie and Harvey onlu to have to settle for two draws and a loss.
